A successful defense attorney who has been estranged from her father for more than 20 years reluctantly returns home to care for him after he is diagnosed with symptoms of Alzheimer’s in “Sacrifices of the Heart,” a Hallmark Original Movie which premieres Saturday, March 3 (9/8c).  Melissa Gilbert and Ken Howard star as father and daughter in an emotional story of love and forgiveness.

Kate Weston (Melissa Gilbert) is a successful defense attorney who specializes in juvenile criminal cases.  She has a knack of connecting with her troubled clients, but connecting in her personal life is another matter.  Her love life is less than desirable and her boyfriend is losing his patience with her.  She has all but cut off her family and her brother and father haven’t seen her in more than two years. 

When her brother Ryan (Cyril O’Reilly) calls to tell her their father, Thane (Ken Howard) has been having memory loss and suggests she come home for a visit, Kate reluctantly agrees.  She blames her father for her mother’s suicide 30 years before; Kate discovered the body in the family car and it traumatized her.

At first look, Kate is not convinced her father has a serious problem, but during her stay, she realizes his memory lapses merit a closer look and when the doctor confirms their suspicions of early Alzheimer’s, Kate begins to examine her relationship with her father more closely.
