SynopsisRuth Galloway (Doris Roberts), a widow approaching 70, has everything that many people would hope for -- including a posh Beverly Hills home and enough money to live in extreme comfort for the rest of her days -- but her life is empty and utterly without meaning. She is mourning the death of her husband, Martin. And despite frequent visits from her hairdresser son Paul (Jeffrey Marcus), she is disconnected from other family members and friends. Her daughter, Geena (Ann Magnuson), a high-powered attorney, has almost no time for Ruth. When they do see one another, it’s always a contentious relationship. After making a disheartening visit to her husband’s grave on the day of what would have been their wedding anniversary, Ruth swallows a fistful of sleeping pills -- not really a suicide attempt; more a case of taking too many in hopes that the medicine will kick in right away. more
