The Hallmark Original Mystery Will Launch Its Fourth Season

While searching for a KGB double agent who was about to be exposed by another Russian spy-turned-successful author, mystery bookstore owner Samantha Kinsey (Kellie Martin) and her good friend and store manager, Philby (Clarence Williams III) are thrust into the murderous world of international espionage in the fourth season launch of MYSTERY WOMAN “In the Shadows,” a Hallmark Mystery Movie premiering Saturday, January 13 (9/8c). 

MYSTERY WOMAN also stars Nina Siemaszko (“The West Wing”) as Assistant District Attorney Cassie Hillman and Casey Sander (“Grace Under Fire”) as Chief Connors. 

While Samantha and Philby attend a book convention, Samantha takes the opportunity to meet one of her favorite authors, Alexsandr Tseitsev (Malachi Throne).  Not only does he publicly reveal that he was a KGB spy for 40 years, but will soon expose a KGB double agent with the release of his next book.   Before he has the opportunity, Alexsandr is stabbed with a lethal injection and nearby, Samantha is grabbed from behind and thrown into the path of oncoming traffic.  Philby arrives to cradle Samantha’s unconscious body and to hear Alexsandr’s final words “finish the game.”

Samantha recuperates in the hospital while Philby and Cassie launch their own investigation.  With no sign of Alexsandr’s new explosive manuscript, the two embark on

a trail of cryptic clues that leads them on a scavenger hunt across town.  It becomes clear that the book convention is a veritable hive of agents, representing various espionage organizations. 

            MYSTERY WOMAN was created by Michael Sloan.  Joyce Burditt, creator of the acclaimed series “Diagnosis Murder,” is executive producer and writer for the franchise. MYSTERY WOMAN “In the Shadows” was written by Eric E. Enroth and Patricia Tait and directed by David S. Cass Sr.
