Synopsis
“Dodson’s Journey” is a beautiful meditation on the bond between parent and child and the nature of love and loss. It is a unique and poignant odyssey of father and daughter in search of a new sense of family.
Only weeks after his father dies and his 11-year marriage abruptly ends in divorce, James Dodson decides to go on a fly-fishing pilgrimage west. His goal: to heal his wounded spirit and explain the vagaries of life and love to his beautiful, precocious seven-year-old daughter, Maggie. So with a beat up truck and fishing poles, they set out to wherever the spirit and lure of America's mighty rivers lead them. On the way, James discovers a great deal about America, and about the special relationship that can exist between a father and daughter.
But only when James can face his own unacknowledged pain and mourn his losses can he begin to heal himself and help his daughter. Aided by the spirits of loved ones, James and Maggie learn that sometimes life isn't what happens while you're waiting to go fishing -- sometimes it happens while you're there.
Produced by Stephen Sassen (Dark Angel) and directed by Gregg Champion (The Cowboy Way), “Dodson’s Journey” was produced by Fox Television Studios and distributed by Twentieth Century Fox International Television.
