MARVIN DORSONSenior Vice President, Creative Services Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel Biography Marvin Dorson, Senior Vice President of Creative Services, leads a team of creative professionals responsible for all on-air promotion for Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel. This includes all programming tune-in spots, interstitials, vignettes, program packaging, and creating and maintaining an on-air environment that supports the network’s family-friendly brand. He is also responsible for managing and scheduling promotional inventory that has successfully built a loyal audience and led the network to become a consistently rated top 10 network. Dorson also oversees the creation of content for the networks’ consumer websites. He is based in Los Angeles and reports to David Kenin, Executive Vice President, Programming. Most recently, Dorson led the launch of “Hallmark Channel on Location,” the network’s first-ever hosted online series devoted to the behind-the-scenes news and events of Hallmark Channel’s roster of family-friendly original movies as well as Hollywood films. He also oversaw the creation and execution of a refreshed on-air look for Hallmark Channel and its online properties, including the creation of the channel’s “Tell Us Your Story” campaign. This initiative invites viewers to submit their personal recollections of heartwarming stories which are turned into animated spots and narrated by the actual viewer. The project continues to be successful and was awarded three Promax awards in 2008 and one in 2007. Dorson’s creative team also develops integrated marketing opportunities for the network’s advertising partners, from conception to design and implementation. Working closely with the channel’s Sponsorship Solutions Unit, they provide unique branded entertainment by integrating a sponsor’s message and brand with that of Hallmark Channel’s to deliver memorable consumer messaging. Dorson’s creative department supports the network’s programming mix including its popular Mystery Movie franchises, critically acclaimed original movies, annual holiday movies, acquisitions, specials and mini-series. The team also works closely with the networks’ other departments to create programming platforms for affiliates, press and business-to-business opportunities, including the National Cable & Telecommunications Association and the Television Critics Association. Prior to joining Hallmark Channel, Dorson was the creative director for Flix and Showtime FamilyZone networks where he supervised the development and production of all on-air creative materials. He also directed the networks’ live action film and video shoots for branding and promotional support materials. Simultaneously, Dorson was the creative director of creative services marketing for Showtime. In that role he supervised the production of all affiliate sales marketing initiatives, direct response, direct-to-home, co-branding, new business development and launch materials for the networks’ Video-On-Demand platform. Additionally, he produced creative materials for the channels’ Internet and interactive websites. Dorson’s work has garnered him several prestigious industry awards throughout his career. In 2008, Dorson and his team were awarded a Silver Promax Award for the channel’s promotion of its original movie “Avenging Angel.” He previously won a Gold Promax award for a back-to-school spot, and a Bronze BDA award for a Television Critics Association press reel. At Showtime Networks, he won a CTAM Gold Award for promotional materials he created to support the channel’s Black History Month campaign. Dorson received a bachelor of fine arts degree in film production from Hunter College in New York City. He graduated summa cum laude. He is a member of the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing where he serves as a co-chair for the annual CTAM Summit and is a member of their Consumer Marketing Council. In addition, he is an active member of Promax|BDA.
